SNCA and Parkinson disease: α-synuclein (α-syn), encoded by SNCA, is the main component of LBs; its mutation and overexpression contribute to the pathogenesis of PD.2 Mitochondrial dysfunction also plays a major role in the disease.3 Many studies have reported that α-syn impairs the mitochondrial respiratory chain and thereby reduces mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), which leads to mitochondria-dependent apoptosis.4, 5 Thus, preventing the localization of α-syn to mitochondria and mitochondrial quality control are potential strategy for protecting against neurodegeneration in PD.6, 7, 8
