The novel PET tracer, [68Ga]Pentixafor [14] with high affinity to CXCR4, has recently been introduced for the imaging of several different hematologic and other neoplasms including leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, adrenocortical carcinoma or small cell lung cancer [15–19], and also in other solid tumors and disease conditions, such as splenosis, stroke, atherosclerosis, and myocardial infarction in humans and in animals [9, 20, 21]. Here, CXCR4 is linked to atherosclerosis.
