A recent work of our group indicates that MMP-8 and MMP-3 were not present in primary culture of fallopian tube epithelial cells when infected with Ngo, however these MMPs were present in FTs explants, which indicate that epithelial-stroma interaction may have an important role during gonococcal infection (Rodas et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene MMP8 and bacterial sexually transmitted disease.
