The data generated by NGS and other omics tools are enabling, and will further enable, clinicians to make improved diagnostic and treatment decisions in future clinics, e.g., discovery of BRCA1, BRCA2 variants and other biomarkers for breast and other chronic illness have been inducted as part of the routine clinical tests for breast cancer patients, profiling genetic markers like HER2, ER, and PR, as well as development of molecularly targeted therapies such as trastuzumab which specifically targeted HER2+ breast cancer patients. The gene discussed is BRCA2; the disease is breast carcinoma.
