Other studies have also shown that several natural products, namely, Dachengqi decoction (a traditional Chinese medicine formula), glycyrrhizin (from licorice root), and the tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid THI-28, inhibit HMGB1 release in cellular and animal models of endotoxemia and severe acute pancreatitis by activating p38 signaling (Kim, Kim & Chang, 2015; Chen et al., 2015; Kim et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene HMGB1 and serum lipopolysaccharide activity.
