A recent paper from the North American Prodrome Longitudinal Study (NAPLS), assessing people at high-risk for schizophrenia showed that the combination of increases in peripheral blood levels of several interleukins (IL-1, IL-7 and IL-8) and molecules capable of modulating the blood-brain barrier function can be used to predict conversion to psychotic illness [14].
