Among several members of this family, ADAM8 exhibits sheddase activity, enabling cleavage of atherosclerosis related cell surface proteins, including the inflammatory molecules L-selectin, P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), TNF receptor 1 and vascular cell adhesion molecule 18, 9. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and atherosclerosis.
