SQSTM1 and obesity disorder: In accordance with the data showing that inhibition of autophagy in the mediobasal hypothalamus and POMC neurons drives obesity and metabolic dysfunction, impaired autophagy is observed in the hypothalamus of rodents challenged with a HFD (Meng et al., 2011) as indicated by the decreased expression of autophagic markers (Atg5 and Atg7), by the lower conversion of LC3-I to LC3-II, and by the increase in p62/SQSTM1 ([77]; Portovedo et al., 2015).
