BDNF and Alzheimer disease: A reduction in mature BDNF was reported in the aged human parietal and frontal cortices (Ferrer et al., 1999), hippocampus (Phillips et al., 1991; Hock et al., 2000) and nucleus basalis (Fahnestock et al., 2002), and in cortex in mouse models of AD (Peng et al., 2009), however, our study did not reveal significant changes in mature BDNF levels in the aged mouse hippocampus, but only increases in proBDNF.
