However, small cell carcinoma of the esophagus (SCCE), as one kind of neuroendocrine carcinoma originated from esophagus characterized as high grade neuroendocrine carcinoma with a mitotic count of > 20 per 10 high power fields and/ or a Ki-67 index > 20% [2], was reported to account for only 0.5% to 5.9% of all esophageal cancer in Chinese patients and 1% to 2.8% in Western patients [3].
