MBTPS1 and inflammatory bowel disease: S1P receptor modulators constitute a new and promising approach to the treatment of a range of inflammatory disorders including inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) (Nielsen et al., 2017), and data recently obtained in animal models of IBD suggest a contribution of the SphKs/S1P system and related signaling pathways to the anti-inflammatory effect of protocatechuic acid (Crespo et al., 2017).
