NQO1 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A recent study employing ribonucleoprotein immunoprecipitation has shown that NQO1 binds a subset of mRNA's in HepG2 cells and a major target was SERPIN 1A1 mRNA which encodes the serine protease inhibitor α-1-antitrypsin, A1AT, which is associated with disorders including obesity-related metabolic inflammation and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (Di Francesco et al., 2016).
