ITPR1 and diabetes mellitus: Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) revealed that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in sarco/ER Ca2+ ATPase (SERCA) [5] and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3R) [6], which regulate intracellular Ca2+ homeostasis, are associated with the susceptibility to higher body mass index (BMI) and diabetes.
