CAMP and type 2 diabetes mellitus: Since monocytes from T2D patients and low serum levels of vitamin D show an impaired ability to control the intracellular growth of M. tuberculosis (even though vitamin D levels are not associated with significant expression of LL-37 and HBD2), other mechanisms directly or indirectly regulated by vitamin D could be involved in the inability of monocytes from T2D patients to control M. tuberculosis growth.
