A genetic manipulation study comparing double (apolipoprotein E and eNOS) knockout with single (apolipoprotein E) knockout model demonstrate that eNOS deficiency increases atherosclerosis in Western-type diet-fed single (apolipoprotein E) knockout mice and introduces an array of cardiovascular complications, including myocardial infarction, heart failure, and spontaneous aortic aneurysm and dissection [18]. Here, NOS3 is linked to aortic aneurysm.
