CD4 and infection: Specifically, it demonstrates that (i) clinical severity of TB is not associated with a degree of pulmonary destruction, Mtb excretion or TB extent; (ii) quantitative parameters of Mtb-specific CD4+ T cells and their polyfunctional profile differ between TBP and healthy participants, including LTBI subjects, but play a minor role in determining TB severity; (iii) pulmonary destruction, one of the leading causes of Mtb excretion, infection dissemination, and patient death, is tightly associated with an increase in band neutrophil population.
