ALB and immune system disorder: Specifically, we aimed to confirm that elevated circulating PGE2 levels contributed to immune suppression; examine whether exogenous albumin improved PGE2-albumin binding and/or increased catalysis; compare PGE2 binding in commercial albumin preparations; determine whether any improvement in immune dysfunction observed following 20% HAS infusion was via a PGE2 effect; and examine the potential interaction of infused albumin with other plasma lipids (including proresolving mediators, molecules with host protective actions10), proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, and endotoxin.
