In IBD, activation of STAT3 that is mediated by the interaction of IL-6/sIL-6R complexes and gp130 enhances the expression of antiapoptotic factors such as BCL-2 and BCL-XL, which causes apoptotic resistance in CD4+T cells and contributes to the perpetuation of chronic intestinal inflammation [26].
