Therefore to test ﻿this possibility, we measured SSAT-1 mRNA levels by real time qPCR and found ~3-fold elevated SSAT-1 mRNA level in lesional samples (Fig. 3c, p < 0.01, n = 5) suggesting that an increased SSAT-1 enzyme levels could lead to an enhanced polyamine catabolism in vitiligo. The gene discussed is SAT1; the disease is vitiligo.
