A complete medical diagnosis of TB must include information from the patient's medical history, a physical examination, a chest X-ray, a microbiological examination (of sputum or some other appropriate sample), a nucleic acid amplification test, and sometimes, immunological tests (an interferon-gamma release assay and/or a tuberculin skin test), and occasionally an adenosine deaminase assay. The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is tuberculosis.
