AKT activation may thereby limit prolonged and excessive levels of autophagy in cells, which could trigger autophagic cell death or autosis.46, 47 Our data extend previous findings that AKT inhibits basal autophagy in prostate cancer and glioma cells.48 By a combination of genetic and chemical approaches, we identified AKT2 as the hitherto unknown AKT isoform curtailing autophagy upon DSB induction. The gene discussed is AKT2; the disease is central nervous system cancer.
