Despitethese similarities, current results are not consistent with all postmortem studies.Indeed, others report unchanged GAD67 mRNA levels in the dlPFC of MDD patients.19 Conversely, another study reported reductions in both GAD65 andGAD67 mRNA levels in the sgACC of depressed patients.13 These discrepancies may be related to level of analysis (protein vs. mRNA),the brain regions analyzed (dlPFC vs. sgACC), underpowered sample sizes, or sexdifferences (e.g., in the latter study, GAD67 mRNA reductions were foundin only male subjects, which could mask potential decreases in mixed cohorts). Here, GAD1 is linked to major depressive disorder.
