In this regard, post hoc analyses of studies examining the role of anti-VEGF therapies in diabetic eye disease suggest that monthly anti-VEGF treatment may not be adequate to prevent the progression of diabetic retinopathy in all treated patients[25, 26]; this is consistent with a role for other angiogenic mediators in the pathogenesis and progression of diabetic eye disease.
