Characterization of other ALS-associated genes and DDR-related susceptibility factors such as senataxin (SETX) [57] and the newly discovered cyclinF [58] in their importance for DNA destabilization, as recently eventuated for FUS and C9orf72 mutations [59, 60], might improve our understanding of ALS as a heterogeneous disorder. The gene discussed is C9orf72; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
