While no human or animal studies implicate GFPT2 methylation in the development of excess adiposity, genome-wide association studies identified an association between a SNP (rs2303007) in exon 14 of GFTP2 with development of type 2 diabetes in Caucasian individuals [40, 41], although this SNP failed replication in a candidate SNP study of a Finnish population [42].
