LGALS4 and infection: Alterations of some of these pathways can be lethal during fly development; thus, in these cases we took advantage of RNA interference (RNAi) inducibility to pass fly development and still test the function of otherwise lethal genes in adult Drosophila. The reduction of juvenile hormone through the UAS-Gal4 system, or FOXO via RNAi, caused a significant decrease in pheromone production after infection when compared to the parental lines or to the genetically identical RNAi controls that had not been activated by temperature (Fig. 2e).
