Using our SIV macaque model for AIDS and HIV encephalitis, we recently demonstrated that the brain of SIV-infected macaques virally suppressed for more than 500 days harbored latent SIV genomes that were reactivated during treatment with the protein kinase C (PKC) agonist ingenol-B and the HDAC inhibitor vorinostat (36). This evidence concerns the gene PRRT2 and AIDS.
