The role of epigenetic remodeling in cardiac differentiation has been revealed by mutations in chromatin modifiers such as ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex (CHD7) [12], Williams syndrome transcription factor (WSTF) [13], and histone H3K36 methyltransferase Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome candidate 1 (WHSC1) [14]—all of which are also involved in the pathogenesis of human heart diseases [15].
