An important animal model of MS is experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE, originally called experimental allergic encephalomyelitis), which is induced by sensitization of experimental animals with CNS tissue, CNS myelin or specific constituents of myelin including myelin basic protein (MBP, originally called basic protein or encephalitogenic protein), proteolipid protein (PLP) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG). The gene discussed is MOG; the disease is experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.
