A number of gene variants have been associated with increased risk of NAFLD and the association of the patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing 3 (PNPLA3) and the transmembrane 6 superfamily member 2 (TM6SF2) have been robustly replicated in children too [26,27,28,29]. The gene discussed is PNPLA3; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
