Gdf15 is released upon myocardial infarction, inhibiting polymorphonuclear leukocyte recruitment and inflammatory response which reduced the rate of pathology after myocardial infarction in rodents45–47, and increased production of Gdf15 led to smaller atherosclerotic lesions in the ApoE−/− mouse model of atherosclerosis28.
