The phenotype and function of CD163+ macrophages is unclear, as CD163+ macrophages have been associated with wound healing and the resolution of inflammation [23–25], but have also been implicated in inflammation, such as in spondyloarthritis [26–29], psoriasis [29, 30] and inflammatory bowel disease [27, 31]. The gene discussed is CD163; the disease is spondyloarthropathy.
