Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is the strongest known genetic risk factor for the most common late-onset sporadic AD (Corder et al., 1993; Strittmatter et al., 1993), which might impair Aβ clearance and increase its aggregation in the brain (Bales et al., 1997; Holtzman et al., 2000; Verghese et al., 2013).
