It is still not clear whether overexpression of VEGF-B would induce favourable changes in the human coronary vasculature, cardiac function and myocardial metabolism, but since patients with T2DM suffer AMI more frequently and their outcomes are more severe than the healthy population, they could have a particular benefit from cardioprotective properties of VEGF-B.
