In experimental mouse models of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), Falkevall et al. [52] showed that renal VEGF-B expression correlates with the severity of disease and that inhibiting VEGF-B signalling in DKD mouse models reduces renal lipotoxicity, resensitizes podocytes to insulin signalling, inhibits the development of DKD-associated pathologies and prevents renal dysfunction [52]. The gene discussed is VEGFB; the disease is diabetic kidney disease.
