ERCC5 and cancer: It encodes a structure-specific endonuclease that has multiple function during the NER.[8] Previous studies indicated that XPG polymorphisms can influence the DNA repair ability for tobacco and alcohol-induced DNA damage, thereby increasing the susceptibility to cancer.[9,10] For instances, Lu et al reported that XPG rs17655 polymorphism contributed to increased risk of laryngeal cancer[11]; He et al[12] indicated that another polymorphism in XPG gene, rs2094258, might be associated with neuroblastoma susceptibility.
