PINK1 and Parkinson disease: We recently demonstrated that blocking Dynamin-Related Protein-1 (Drp1), a mitochondrial fission protein, rescued synaptic dysfunction and prevented cells death in the 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-treated and Pink1-knockout mouse models of nigrostriatal dysfunction1, suggesting the potential clinical relevance to PD.
