TP53 and ovarian cancer: Indeed TP53 is mutated in nearly all high grade serous carcinomas (HGSC), the histotype responsible for most deaths from ovarian cancer [5, 6], and is also mutated in its precursor, serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC) [7–9], suggesting this is a key and early event in carcinogenesis [10].
