In the past two decades, α-synuclein has been the center of focus in understanding the etiology of a group of overlapping neurodegenerative disorders called synucleinopathies, which include Parkinson’s disease (PD), Parkinson’s disease dementia (PDD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), multiple system atrophy (MSA) and a number of less well-characterized neuroaxonal dystrophies[1–3]. This evidence concerns the gene SNCA and Lewy body dementia.
