KL and glomerulonephritis: Findings related to the roles of Klotho in renal function have shown that Klotho-gene expression levels are significantly decreased in the kidneys of patients with chronic renal failure6 and ischemia–reperfusion injury.7 Klotho overexpression can preserve renal function by suppressing the development of renal failure7 and glomerulonephritis-induced cellular senescence.8 However, the regulatory mechanism of Klotho in renal disease remains poorly understood.
