Carefully examining the compounds increasing secretion of both the types, we identified sulphated polysaccharide kappa carrageenan (KC) derived from seaweed K. alvarezii. Compound KC is a commonly used food additive that also has well established anti-inflammatory (de Brito et al., 2013), anti-cancer, antimicrobial, and wound healing properties (Aguilar-Briseno et al., 2015; Hadj Ammar et al., 2015).
