We and others have shown that the small neutral amino acid transporter, ASCT2 is upregulated in many cancer types including: breast, prostate, skin (melanoma), colorectal, pancreatic, tongue and lung cancers.20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 These data led us to hypothesise that ASCT2 may also be important for promoting and sustaining cell growth in endometrial cancer, where diet is known to be a contributing factor. This evidence concerns the gene SLC1A5 and melanoma.
