Clinically, elevated plasma levels of CXCL8 and other ELR-CXC chemokines have been found with chronic diseases such as arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, cystic fibrosis, atherosclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), psoriasis and cancer [3] as well as in acute indications such as reperfusion injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) [1]. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and inflammatory bowel disease.
