Among the extracellular matrix-receptor interaction pathway, several collagen genes were upregulated in malignant melanomas compared to melanocytomas; one of the most upregulated was COL11A. A collagen-remodeling gene signature has been found in human ovarian cancers, where levels of COL11A1 continuously increase during disease progression, with the highest expression in recurrent metastases59. The gene discussed is COL11A1; the disease is ovarian cancer.
