Indices of microglial inflammation, such as enhanced production of inflammatory cytokines, induction of proinflammatory proteins such as COX-2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and microglial proliferation have been described in Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and ALS [34, 40–45]. This evidence concerns the gene NOS2 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
