We measured the serum concentration of IgG against 44 food antigens along with the concentration of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 1b (IL-1b) which are related to inflammatory hypothesis of depression and are also associated with modulation of intestinal permeability [50]. This evidence concerns the gene IL1B and major depressive disorder.
