Encouraged by the increasing number of publications dealing with the intersection of HIV propagation and autophagy35 together with the identification of GABARAPL2 and GABARAP as proteins relevant for HIV infection/replication in two independent, large scale siRNA screens36, 37, we decided to have a more detailed look at the interaction between Nef and the human ATG8s with the aim of uncovering the putative biological function of this cross-talk, which might be relevant e.g. for Nef-associated pathogenesis during HIV infection. The gene discussed is S100B; the disease is HIV infectious disease.
