Monocyte-reactive opsonophagocytic IgG antibodies to HIV-1 gp140 (disulfide-stabilized trimers of gp120 and the ectodomain of gp41) are produced during early HIV-1 infection, but it is unclear if they are associated with the control of HIV-1 replication, and the partially successful vaccination strategy used in the RV144 trial did not induce these antibodies (129). Here, ITIH4 is linked to HIV-1 infection.
