MMP2 and breast cancer: In an analysis of 1,144 genes from a panel of 28 human breast cancer cell lines given in the GEO data set GSE16795,29 we have demonstrated that metastatic compared with non-metastatic breast cancer cells contain significantly (P<0.01) increased messenger RNA (mRNA) gene expression levels of integrin α-1, α-4, α-5, α-6, α-V, and β-1, a decreased level of E-cadherin, and increased levels of MMP-2, -3, -11, -14, -16, and -19 as shown in Figure 1a.
