Markers of the UPR have been detected postmortem in the brain tissue of AD patients (Hoozemans et al., 2005; Scheper and Hoozemans, 2015) and UPR activation has been correlated with tau phosphorylation, a critical step preceding the formation of neurofibrillary tangles (Hoozemans et al., 2009). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
