PAPOLG and pyelonephritis: ST131 is known to cause UTIs, yet this clade has only a partial pap (P fimbriae or pyelonephritis associated pilus) gene operon (Clark et al. 2012): 82% of ST131 had only papABIX or fewer genes from the operon and not, for example, the tip adhesin papG. In more detail, 90% of ST131 isolates had papA, but only 17% had the tip adhesin papG (Supplemental Fig. S7).
